AGUEDA FERNÁNDEZ ABAD
Argentinian mezzo soprano Agueda Fernández-Abad has performed operas and oratorios with the leading orchestras of Argentina, United States and Europe. She is the recipient of numerous awards. Upon her arrival in the United States in 1990, she worked with the Florida Grand Opera. Between 2003 and 2012, she offered diverse recitals in Germany, Italy and Spain, in different venues such as the Palau de la Musica Valenciana, Radio Nacional de España, International Festival of Sacred Music, etc. She also performed in several productions in the iconic Spanish style operetta known as zarzuela.
TONNA MILLER-VALLÉS
Hailed by the New York Times as “fresh” and “sweet-toned,” and by Opera News as having a “sugar-tipped soprano,” Tonna Miller-Vallés is lauded for her “flesh and blood” performances and “natural stage presence.” Equally at home in major opera houses and on Broadway, Ms. Miller has been heard at the Metropolitan Opera as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro and as fiery Carlotta Giudicelli in Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. While at New York City Opera, Ms. Miller sang the title role in Patience, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Yum-Yum in The Mikado, Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Frasquita in Carmen and Helen Niles in Mourning Becomes Electra. Ms. Miller has sung roles with L.A. Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and Opera Theatre of St. Louis among others.
CATHERINE THORPE
Catherine Thorpe, soprano, has been praised by The Washington Post as having “a voice of liquid silver” and The Boston Globe described her as “[a]n accurate and committed musician with a voice that can meet any demand, no matter how extreme, with secure and attractive tone.” Ms. Thorpe’s roles and musical stylings are as varied as her vocal range: from leading roles at Caramoor and with the New York City Opera National Touring Company to featured solos with The Boston Pops and as the “girl singer” with the Sammy Kaye Orchestra, The Providence Journal aptly noted that she has “stage presence and range to spare...”
PHYLLIS WHITEHOUSE FROME
Phyllis Whitehouse has sung all over the US and parts of Europe if you include the unpaid gigs and warm-ups in the car. Equally at home in dive bars or Carnegie Hall, Ms. Whitehouse embraces many singing styles. Highlights include six summers in the chorus of the Bard SummerScape Operas, The Verdi Requiem in Verbier Switzerland under James Levine, the lounge at the North Bergen NJ Holiday Inn, and the Brick Church choir in Manhattan, where she met Agueda, Cathy and Tonna. As long as she's singing, she's happy!
